We deliver optometry services into a large number of prisons nationwide. We have 25+ optometrists who work for us across the UK delivering eye tests in prisons.

We also train prisoners in optical retail and lab skills which help them to secure a job in the optics industry thereby reducing their chances of reoffending. We have an optical lab inside a prison from where we train prisoners in a L2 qualification in optical skills. We have a second optical lab being set up in another prison in June 2023. This is an exciting time to join us as we look for opportunities to develop our business. 

We are looking for a Deputy General Manager to join our small back office team on a permanent basis. Office hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 6pm.

Job Specification

The role will be to ensure all back office functions  for a national prison optometry service are completed efficiently. Assisting the GM with recruitment for new prison contracts while also supporting the founder with development of new business opportunities.

The role would suit someone who is business minded and has demonstrable experience as an office manager for a small business.

• Responsibility for own workload and has ability to prioritise

• Excellent written and spoken communication 

• Resourceful: unafraid of hard work, you are often able to offer solutions and clarity.

• Commercial awareness: keen to learn and understand how the optical sector operates and what emerging challenges and opportunities might be.

• A passion for organisation, using multiple systems to file online using shared drives, update, invoice, add orders etc

• Ability to pick up new computer systems quickly

• Willingness to help out where needed in other areas of the business

• Financial tasks e.g. chasing overdue invoices, bank reconciliation and payroll.

Experience:

• Advanced use of Excel / Google Sheets

• QuickBooks: 3 years (preferred)

• Office Manager: 3 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

• Driving Licence (required)
